A law strengthening the protection and support of parents of a dependent child suffering from cancer, other serious illness or a disability has been published. Its main provisions for employers are as follows :
Retirement savings : a new early-release case is created for a retirement savings plan (plan d’épargne retraite, PER) or a former supplementary retirement contract, where the dependent child suffers from a serious illness or has a disability or a particularly serious accident.
Parental presence leave (congé de présence parentale) : the notice the employee must give the employer is reduced from 15 to 10 days.
Protection against dismissal : the protection that applies during parental presence leave is extended to 10 weeks following the end of that leave.
Individualised working hours : the arrangements already open to family carers are extended to parents of a child whose state of health requires a sustained presence and demanding care.
Announcement leave : the minimum leave for the announcement of a child’s cancer, disability or chronic condition requiring training in its therapeutic management (apprentissage thérapeutique) is doubled from five to 10 days.
